Studio facilities

Kilns

The studio has four electric kilns (Three large and one small), three gas fired raku kilns and a woodfired/gasfired kiln. All the electric kilns fire to stoneware temperatures and the gas kilns are used for raku and reduction firings. All kilns are loaded, fired and unpacked by the tutors.

Throwing wheels

Three Shimpo and five Venco electric wheels are provided for students who wish to throw. The studio caters from beginners to advanced. Waste clay is recycled and pugged, making for a very efficient use of valuable resources. There are a large range of plaster and timber bats, allowing for the throwing of the smallest cup to the largest platter. Size is only limited by your skill, technique and the size of the kiln.

Handbuilding

For the handbuilders there are moulds, extruders, rolling pins, tile cutters and a large variety of tools for cutting, making shapes, patterns and textures.

Materials

The class fee includes all materials. This includes clay (seven types), glazes, under glazes, slips and coloured oxides, all tested to work with our clay types.

Tools

A vast array of tools are provided, whether it be for throwing, turning, sculpting, hand building, applying textures or painting. There is also an extensive library of books, magazines and DVD′s for motivation and ideas. You are welcome to bring your own toolsbut please ensure they are clearly labelled.

Slab Roller

The slab roller allows for the production of quick and even rolled slabs of clay for use in sculpture, modelling and moulding of various shapes.
